Highjacked article 3: Music

Hello everyone and welcome to another installment of the hijacked series here on https://metanoiameans.com. today, we will be talking about one of the easiest things for the devil to highjack.  Not only is it the easiest for him to hijack it is the most prevalent and inconspicuous highjack-able thing we have access to in our daily lives, music.

Everyone has a favorite song, I know what I do; in fact I have several. They bring me happiness, brighten my mood, sometimes they help me get through a rough day, but mostly, they preach to me because all I listen to is music that praises God, music that glorifies God, music that puts me in a mode of worship.

Do I need music to worship? No but it is a nice additive sometimes. And that is biblically what music is supposed to be, a form of worship. Even in secular culture, it is a form of worship, but the question is… Who or what are you worshiping?

That is what this article is about today… How the devil has taken something that God created for us to use to worship him and turned it in large part into something that does the opposite, something that disgraces him, saddens him, and most likely angers him?

If you wanna see what I’m talking about, just turn on the radio or if you’re a little more high tech, go to a secular streaming service and see what their top streamed songs are. As a lover of music, it breaks my heart each and every day to see what it has become.

It saddens and distresses me to no end to hear the filth that is secular music. Rap… Hip-hop… R&B… Jazz… Rock… Country… Every mainstream genre has absolute filth in it.

Sex, murder, money, drugs and crime… These are the topics that dominate the music industry.

Reader… I want you to ask yourself, if He were here in the flesh right now, here in this room with you, would Jesus be happy to listen to your favorite song with you? That song that gets you excited, that song that gets you pumped up, that song you used to get ready for the day, that song you used to pull yourself up out of a slump; that song that you choose before every other song in your playlist, that song that you sometimes put on repeat endlessly, that song that gets you hyped up for your workout….

Your favorite song… would Jesus sit and listen to it with you?

Would He enjoy it with you? If He had a playlist, would He put your favorite song on it?

I will answer this question for my former self, the version of me who didn’t know Jesus, the version of me who didn’t want anything to do with Him.

The answer was no.

If your answer matches that of my former self, maybe it’s time you rethink your favorite song.

Maybe it’s time you rethink your playlist, maybe it’s time you rethink your taste in music; maybe it’s time you change your mind.

This article has thus far taken a different route at showing you what the devil does to hijack music as compared to the route from the last article, which showed you how he hijacks your emotions.

With this article, I’m encouraging you to realize the problem that’s in the music industry. The fact that it is drenched in sin, it’s drenched in darkness and evil instead of being bathed in purity and light.

Lucifer, also known as Satan, also known as the devil is suggested in the Bible to have been in charge of musical worship in heaven. Some verses saying he actually had instruments inside his body. The verse Ezekiel 28:13 is interpreted by some to describe Lucifer having musical instruments like “tabrets and pipes” prepared within him at creation, implying he was designed for music.

Some translations have the verse as reading: “The workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was in thee in the day that thou wast created”.

If this interpretation is correct, it makes sense that he would take what he was charged with in heaven, and make it to be used for his own ends here on earth.

He would turn God’s beautiful gift to mankind, a tool that he gave us to worship Him with, against Him.

So I ask you, why let him? Why let him succeed in turning such a beautiful creation of God’s against Him?

Modern music of all genres should be thoroughly examined before putting it into your daily rotation; yes, that includes gospel and other forms of worship music.

You should check the lyrics of the songs you listen to and see if they fit into the lifestyle of a true follower of Christ.

You could even ponder if they would fit into the lifestyle of Christ himself.

In my 35 years on this earth, I’ve heard music of many types and I can tell you that 99.9% of it promotes something that God does not like. Or glorifies something that God condemns and instead encourages a mindset that will lead to a hardened heart and a reprobate mind–exactly with the devil wants.

The lyrics of most modern songs are either overly gross, overly sexualized or violent. They encourage lifestyles that are entirely contrary to the word of God, but fall perfectly in line with the words of Satan.

 “do what thou wilt”

that thought process, do what thou wilt will only lead to  blood being spilt.

You may not realize it at the time, but modern music affects your mental state. A song with angry lyrics or instrumentation in it will make you angry. A sad song will make you sad, a happy song will make you happy and a lustful song will make you lustful.

Be careful what you listen to, guard what you allow to come through your ears because music is the only thing that doesn’t have to ask permission to enter your soul.

So once again, I encourage you, reader… Examine your musical tastes, examine the playlists you’ve built, examine the songs you’ve listened to, examine the ones you enjoy, examine the ones you hate and ask yourself why.

  • Does your music glorify God?
  • Does your music praise God?
  • Does your music magnify God?
  • Does your music put God first?
  • Does your music lead you to worship God?
  • Does your music point you to scripture?

If the answer to any of these questions is no…..

Rethink your music, taste and redo your playlists.

Don’t give control of your mind to the devil.

Don’t let him pilot you like a puppet through what you listen to.
