Thankfulness
Blessed morning to you all and happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating it. On this morning of a day that culture has dictated that we should give thanks, I have sat thinking about that exact thing. Thankfulness.
Thankfulness isn’t just a feeling or an action, it is or at least it should be a constant state of being.
For those of us who follow Christ, it certainly is supposed to be a pillar of our daily life. We cannot do anything under our own power, which means we should be thankful for everything at all times.
Trials, tribulations, tests, and blessings… We should be thankful for all of these things because God both intends for them, and uses them to form us into whom he created us to be.
There are the usual things that the world tells you to be thankful for, but all of these things are temporary and will soon pass away.
I submit to you that you should be thankful for things that most would tell you not to be or they would just fall under the radar. Be thankful that your God is a healer, be thankful that your God is a protector, be thankful that your God is a provider. Be thankful that your God is a savior. Be thankful that your God is a redeemer.
Sadly, this world tries to cut God out of everything so if you really pay attention to a secular Thanksgiving celebration… Who are they saying thanks to? Unfortunately, it’s not the God we serve.
So I propose that as you give thanks today and hopefully begin a new lifestyle of thankfulness that carries for the rest of your days, you also pray for those who do not know YHWH, do not know Lord Jesus, do not know the Holy Spirit of God, do not know the Almighty triune God of the Israelites to whom we give glory praise honor and thanks in all things.
I also propose that some time today is spent thinking of others, others who are less fortunate than ourselves. Jesus does ask us to feed the hungry, what better day to do so than a day in which we are taught to give thanks for all we have?
Let your thankfulness be shown every day, not just one day a year. Let it be a sweet song to our God that he hears from you every day.
God bless you!
