Not illuminated.
But illuminate.
I can’t recall who started it, but since our wedding night, my husband and I have always shone a light before and into the path of the other, as they journeyed to the bathroom or kitchen or anything in the dark.
This is due to “I don’t want my beloved’s toes to get stubbed,” of course, but also due to Psalm 119:105 Thy Word Is A Lamp unto my feet and A Light unto my path.
Some people I know would say “my wife’s stubbed toe isn’t my concern, especially when I’m half asleep,” but one of the best things I learned from my mother is to be considerate of others, and to anticipate what I could do to ease their way. I don’t actually remember if she ever articulated it thusly but I’ve always observed it in her, and for that I’m grateful.
We’re told to bear one another’s burdens, after all, and to show both love and even preference to others over our own selves.
That’s what Jesus Did for us when He Died upon the cross and bore our burdens of sin (and associated shame) upon His Own Sinless Back and Shoulders.
Oh, there are so many verses I want to spout right now, lol. My help comes from The One Who Made the mountains is the one I have to type before I have to put this phone down.
(My sweet and very-sleepy husband is lumbering back from a trip across the house and I want to light his way with a flameless, remote-controlled candle. 🕯️
More later ♥️🙏✝️
