that’ll preach! Border collies and Easter

Good morning everyone, your friend MB here. Today my wife and I were having a little morning time discussion and Bible study. She told me a story that she has told me before, but it hit different today.

A few years ago, my wife had two service dogs, two McNab border collies. She said that she used to get down on the floor each and every day to play with the dogs and cuddle with them. She said she used to do that despite whatever pain she was in because she loved them quite a lot. There’s more details of the story, but those are the key elements and also the ones that god used to bring the revelation forth that I will be sharing with you now.

Just as my wife got down to the level of her border collies to show them affection, care and love…god does the same for us.

He meets us where we are and presents us with what we need to get out of that and into what he wants for us. He did this in the ultimate way when he came down from heaven in the human body of his beloved son Jesus Christ and loved us to the fullest.

He didn’t just heal, he didn’t just provide, he didn’t just teach…he showed us the ultimate love by laying down his life for us. He became the perfect sacrifice so that we could be forgiven for our sins.

This is especially poignant with Easter drawing closer with each and every day.

I don’t know about the rest of you but Easter 2026 is certainly going to hit different for me.

Now that I follow Jesus to the best of my ability, Easter is no longer a day for copious amounts of sugar, plastic eggs and bunnies.

But instead, it is the day that the Lord my God rose from the dead, stepped out of the borrowed tomb, and walked on the Earth once again. It is the day he defeated death, hell and the grave in such a resounding way that the effects are felt even now and will be felt until he comes again to take his church home.

So what did this have to do with my wife and her border collies?

She showed those dogs so much love in so many ways. She provided for them, she protected them, she taught them.

She made daily sacrifices for them. That’s exactly what our God does for us.

God cares for all of his creations, God loves all of his creations, god provides for all of his creations, god protects all of his creations.

But WE are the ONLY creations that he sacrificed for.

I don’t know about you guys, but that tells me he loves us endlessly and with a love that is so powerful that it cannot be matched by any other.

What does it tell you?

-MB
