By the people for the people
“is it good or is it evil?”
Here in America, we love the phrase “by the people for the people,” and we like to say that “our government is by the people and for the people, and shall not perish from this earth”.
But now as a Jesus- following Christian, I wonder… Is that actually a good thing?
“By the people for the people” has no mention of God.
Sure, we mention God on our money in our constitution, in our declaration of independence and in our bill of rights; we even are compelled to swear on a Bible when we’re in court… but does our nation just use his name as an ornament?
Does his name just get used as a bit of feel-good -frippery?
Sadly, I believe his name does get used in such a way. It does get used in vain, especially here in America. We claim God when it’s convenient for us, when it’s beneficial to us, but as soon as he stands in the way of what we want, we try to put him on the shelf, toss him aside like he means nothing and is no more than a nuisance to us.
The statement “by the people for the people” has become more and more true as time goes on.
I personally do believe that God gave the people who founded this nation, the power to break away from the oppressive British empire. He gave them the power to do what they wanted.
But I now see that as time has gone on because this nation got what it originally wanted, it’s been drifting away from God. With a very “we got what we wanted we don’t need you anymore” kind of attitude.
It feels like this nation has turned away from God at its heart while still proclaiming him on literal paper. America is known as a melting pot of cultures because we have people from so many different nations living with our borders.
With all of those cultures has also come each of their religions. Anyone who has a digital calendar, especially one by a mega corporation like Google or Apple can look at it and see that Muslim holidays are marked.
What about Christian ones?
In recent news, we’ve seen massive collections of Muslims. Praying in the streets of New York City and blocking traffic while doing so while Christians are confined to their homes and churches for prayer.
Why is it that this nation fights for the religious freedom of anyone who practices any other religion besides Christianity?
Why is it that the religion whose principles this nation was founded upon is being suppressed while all others are celebrated?
Why is it that we the people of this nation have put our God on the shelf and the gods of others on pedestals?
We used to say “in God we trust”
Now we say “let him collect dust”
By the people for the people… Is it good or is it evil?
By the people for the people… Shall not perish from this earth… Why?
Because it will perish WITH the Earth.
We need to wise up and turn back to God before it’s too late.
