Be god’s faithful servant

In ancient times when servitude was common place, and it was something you saw every single day, it was understood that a servant must remain useful to their master.

If a servant was no longer useful to their master, they would be disposed of in a range of ways.

Chiefly, they would either be sold off so that they can make one last contribution to their masters household monetarily, or they would be killed for lack of usefulness.

Hebrews 11:6 states: “but without faith, it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.”

Many people get confused with this verse and think the reward is earthly things: money, cars, clothes, fame, notoriety, popularity… The things this world, and only this world chases. However, this is wrong.

Think back to the image of a servant; a servant is not someone who is known, he is someone who operates under his masters authority and power. He doesn’t operate in such a way so that he can elevate himself above his master, but instead so that he can maintain his place at his masters feet.

God does not reward us with opulence, he does not reward us with trivial things that will fade away in time. He rewards us with what we’ve been chasing after if we’re truly chasing after him. He rewards us with his will for our lives.

Not only does he reward us with the knowledge of what his will for our lives is, but he rewards us with the knowledge, wisdom, fortitude, resources, and power to carry it out for him and through him.

To a servant of God, a reward on this earth is a task because that means you’re doing what he wants you to do, you’re listening, you are obeying, you are following through with his orders.

I say again, he does not reward you with your will, but with the next step in his will for you.

He rewards you with tasks because he still sees use in you.

A servant with no task to do is useless and as mentioned above, useless servants don’t stay “servants” for long.

Your true reward for your servitude will not come to you on this earth, but in eternity after.

If you remain a faithful servant to your master, your creator and your God, the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and hopefully the God of you yourself, then your reward will be eternal. Your reward will be his presence never ending.

The unfaithful servants, the ones who did not seek his face and his will for their lives, Will only get what this world can give them, which is finite and fleeting. When they pass into eternity, that is when they’ll get their true “reward”.

They built their own kingdom on earth and they cannot go back to it. They will not step into God‘s kingdom either for they have no right to do so. Their reward will be punishment.

Punishment in the form of separation from God for all eternity. Punishment in the form of the grinding gritting and gnashing of teeth. Punishment in the form of burning in the fires of hell for the rest of their eternal existence.

So be a good servant, seek his face while He May be Found, seek his presence, seek his will for your life.

He has tasks for you, pick them up, accomplish them.

Do not ignore them.

Do not ignore him because he doesn’t ignore you.
